Radio Airbourne Auditions for Local Talent

1 August 2007

Radio Airbourne

Aspiring DJs will have a chance to audition for their own prime time radio show, as Radio Airbourne 87.7FM brings back its X-Factor style DJ competition.

Run by Eastbourne Borough Council, radio enthusiasts of all ages can compete for a slot on the station by sending in a 5 minute audition tape, with the winner hosting their own hour long show at the arena on Sunday 19 August.

Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Economy, Tourism & Environment, Councillor Steve Wallis said "This is a fantastic opportunity for a budding DJ to gain some behind the scenes production experience and mentoring from some experienced broadcasters.  Who knows, this could be a launch pad for the next star of radio."

The entries will be judged on vocal abilities and lively content, with just five minutes to impress judges who include John Robson (formerly BBC Radio 2 production) and Radio Airbourne's very own Mr Nasty, Station Manager Ian Harling.

Ian said "It is going to be a tough fought competition, but only the best can make it.  We are looking for raw talent so experience isn't essential, just a good voice, interesting dialogue and the desire to be number one."

The winner will get to spend a full day with the team working behind the scenes and will receive a recording of their show on CD.  For those who prefer to stay behind the scenes, a work experience placement also exists for a Production Assistant, giving a valuable insight into the running of a busy radio station.

Radio Airbourne 87.7FM joins the airwaves from Monday 13 August through to Sunday 19 August, broadcasting live commentary, pilots interviews, traffic and weather updates and a range of great music.  Catch up on the latest flying news and previews 24 hours a day.

To enter the competition or to advertise on Radio Airbourne telephone the Events Office on 01323 415442 or send your recording to the Station Manager, Radio Airbourne, Eastbourne Borough Council, 68 Grove Road, Eastbourne BN21 4UH no later than 10 August.
